Trio Coast Celebrations

January 2008, by Gini

The plane arrived in the morning and by mid day I was loaded onto a trolley bus and off to Mt Tamborine for a wine trial. Tom had the easier route by just hanging at the house with a beer in one hand and relaxing with the boys. The hens and stag night had begun...

The trolley bus was a lot of fun, we started with bubbles to get us girls giggling and stop at various vineyards for tastings and conversation. The wine was a lot different from our usual New Zealand plonk but was an interesting experience. But I might just stick to NZ or French wine for the moment. The long ride home from the tour was far from dull with our fun bridesmaid games. We all had a laugh and more than often we all had a shot or two in the name of fun.

After a few toilet breaks later we came to the end of the tour but the beginning of the dinner. The seafood dish was amazing but just too big to finish! and the wine just kept on flowing like it should when ones freedom is coming to an end. I got to meet a few more of Lisa's friends from Australia and enjoyed the dessert which I can't remember at the moment? hmm

The oldies left it to the youngies and we took Lisa to a few pubs and bars to finish the evening off with a slow decline to the body and brain functions. Lisa finished her evening climbing a ladder over her parents fence, helped by her parents to the safety of her bed. What a night.

The boys on the other hand played like boys around a go-cart track for hours. Eat burgers and meat at hooters and then hit the town running. That is about so much as I could get out of them, strange that hmmm. They all turned up a few hours after us but poor gruggie got lost in surfers and Lisa's parents had to go find him, poor little sod.

With only a few hours sleep we were up and enjoying the pool at the rental house but feeling a little worse for wear. The day continued with a trip to the mall in hope of some 80's style outfits we needed to welcome in 2008 as it was New Year's eve. After a pie and too many bright coloured tank tops I started to feel the first effects of the flu. Damn air conditioning in aeroplanes is all I can say. Lisa and Nola came to the rescue with some awesome 80's gear that took people back in time on the night. I swear you could sleep on those shoulder pads. Most of the boys opted to wear their sweat bands again which came in handy as the temperature didn't seem to drop over the course of the night.

Everyone made such an effort that we put on a cat walk show competition for the best dressed man and woman. It was close with lots of the boys busting their moves in their gripper shorts, tight tees, matching tracksuits and of course it goes without saying the sweat bands, which made it. Graham took it out in a matching pink tracksuit and sweat band but closely followed by spiderpig Adam.

The girls strutted their stuff in an equal if not better fashion and got a few whistles along the way. There was tank tops with gorgeous big black lettering and love hearts in red, lots of sparkley numbers, shoulder pads a plenty and of course aprons and washer woman hair scarfs for the mums who raised us in the 80s. There could be only one winner and Lisa took it out in a glam sparkle number followed closely by the wood sisters.

We welcomed in 2008 in style (for the the 80s) and drunk the house dry. With the rest of the week all ours I got sick with the flu and hung in bed and the rest of the clan went from one dry place to next as it didn't stop raining and the beach wasn't really a goer with it being closed due to the winds. A pitty but it was mostly about seeing family and friends and being together.

Before we knew it the wedding day had arrived. The bridesmaid all got ready with Lisa and the hair and makeup specialists. I got a fright when I saw myself for the first time in the mirror - it has to be magic! Lisa looked stunning with her tied up curled hair and seemless makeup. Between eyes, cheeks and hair we had a lovely champagne brunch before the dresses came out. We all squeezed into our purple dresses and slipped on our strappy numbers before the Lisa slip into her dress as it had been made to. Stunning. With a few last minute touches we were in the car and on our way to the Colonial Golf Course in Robina.

Everything went to plan, everyone was waiting, we weren't too late so we took our partners and I led the way with the best looking partner a bridesmaid could ask for, Katie - Lisa's niece. The rest followed until the music changed for Lisa's walk down the aisle with her mum and dad in tow. Everyone remembered their roles, Paul the best man performed his beautifully consisting he had flu and had a slight green tint in the face. The certificate was signed and now I have a sister!

The fun didn't finish there but only continued late into the evening with fantastic speeches from Graham (Groom), Max (Lisa's dad), Paul (Bestman) and dad (Groom's dad) and of course from the MC which was mum (Groom's mum) throughout the evening. The food was of high quality and the wine just kept coming. The dancing kept the night going as did catching up with family. All in all a pretty fantastic week consisting of hens night, stag do, New Years and the event of the week and the wedding of the year. Congratulations guys.
