Two Weeks of Olive

February 2012, by Tom

Two weeks ago, Olive was born. It's hard to imagine that we've only had her with us for such a short amount of time. She is definitely ruling the roost already, with our lives completely transformed to cater to her every need (if we could only understand what they were!).

The first two weeks have been an adventure. Olive has met and been cuddled by many friends and family. She's been sniffed at by her fur brother, Lyon, who is definitely feeling left out and being an attention seeker (getting up to way more mischief than usual!). She has received so many lovely cards and presents from all over the world.

We've had to do a few Googles, buy a book on babies, and asked around for tips. We have had a few visits by the midwife to ensure everything is going smoothly, and so far, so good (minus the lack of sleep for both of us). We are still working on some sort of routine, but it always involves a nice hot evening bath which she enjoys.

We had our first car outing on day 11, visiting Nige, Lana and their little Anthony, and then onto Granny and Grandpa's for brunch (although we didn't get there until 1.30pm, so it was lunch, really ..). Olive slept beautifully, so we popped in on Nan and Granddad for a cup of tea on our return journey home.

I started back at work on the 27th of Feb, which has been a little hard to adjust, with a cute little baby in the other room, it's hard to prioritise the work. It will get easier though.

We are both loving the challenge of having a little one in the house. It has it's moments of despair, when she's not sleeping for no apparent reason, but that despair quickly disappears after she finally settles herself into a beautiful deep slumber, and we can relax to a glass of wine and a little TV. It's the small things.
