Sunny Hot Brisbane Escape

September 2011, by Gini

Having not been overseas for 9 months we booked a trip. We thought it was high time we visited my brother Graham and wife Lisa for a spot of sun in Brisbane for a long weekend. Got a great deal on the flights so it was all booked and ready for us! It just so happened that it was sun all week leading up to our weekend which was a good start!

The weather continued to impress us Kiwi folk while we were there. Just the right temperature, mid twenties. We swapped the coats for singlets and jangles as we stepped off the plane. Gruggie meet us at the other end of the sky airport train in a fancy tie and shirt and led us to their flat in the city centre, walking distance from everything city related. He gave us a walking map of the area leading into town to keep us busy while they were at work. So we put on suncream and wandered around the river waterfront enjoying the views until we reached New Farm Park. Where we had a yummy italian lunch in a local deli.

We spotted the much loved city bikes we enjoyed so much in Europe dotted around Brisbane which has just been introduced. A nice flat city for cycling that is for sure!

We popped on the ferry and enjoyed the city views at high speed until we reached the North station where we jumped off to see some shops on Queen St. After a spot of shopping and not a lot of purchasing we walked back to their flat, where we had a kip. We enjoyed a creamy risotto for dinner and home brew tastings.

The next day we started with a cooked breakfast on the patio in the sunshine before we walked it off on a walk around the waterfront to South Bank, where they have a wonderful manmade beach! We passed the botanical gardens and even saw a snake! heading towards the children's playground… hmmmm After enjoying an ice cream milk shake we visited the modern museum for a surrealism exhibition. The feet and boot image was my favorite! oh and the fox in the table.

Lisa and I managed to get matching hats to protect us from the elements and we enjoyed a late lunch at a pub under the bridge. We even got to walk across the mighty bridge and got home just in time for Julz to arrive for the evening from Sydney. We stopped out for a cocktail or two in an interesting bar with plants and water pools on one level and then disco lights and mirrors on another, the place was huge and I do always judge a place by its toilets and they were crazy ones! with mirrors everywhere I didn't know which way to turn and this was when I had had nothing to drink! I drove everyone to the restaurant as I was the only one not drinking with little beanie on board and we filled up on good food and conversation about onion cutting, oh and garlic.

On Sunday the red bullet was in use again! as we drove to Noosa on the coast for some beach action in the sun. It was lovely to be back in the warm sun and sand and managed a few dips in the water. We didn't even get burnt! We will definitely be back next year to enjoy a week in this place. It had a Mt Maunganui feel to it, small town compared to the Gold Coast.

We finished the sunny day off with splodge, gourmet olive style for dinner and a movie before bed. In the morning we said our goodbyes because someone has to work!

We wandered around town for a little bit and relaxed in the hot afternoon before making our way to the airport for our flight home. Sigh, back to reality again!

Thanks guys for having us! We will be back!
