My Big Fat Greek Lindos

May 2009, by Gini

With a sad Tom just a blur in our back windscreen we headed for Gatwick airport for a summer holiday. We joined forces with the barbers and butlers of the northern hemisphere and landed in Rhodes Island 3 or so hours later.

With a quick stroll around Rhodes coastline enjoying the first of many sun filled days and even spotted Turkey which is a lot closer than one imagined. We finished in the old town for a wander through the old fortress ruins.

After the boys managed to get a good bargain for our car rentals so we could head to the east coast to Lindos and finally Pefkos where the real holiday retreat started. When you come around the corner you are hit with a stunning view of Lindos city scattered around a hill with the Acropolis at the top.

The villa we had rented through Blue Dream, was amazing. Just perfect for 10 people with every mod cons, beautiful modern décor, great pool and only a small walk to lovely beaches and bars.

The rest of the week consisted of great sleep-ins, pool swims, delicious total yoghurt with honey breakfasts, Mythos beers at every meal, cocktails at the beaches, Moussaka and greek salads at every restaurant oh the list goes on, in a nutshell just relaxing. A few great restaurants to note was the Enigma, great views of Pefkos and delicious filo basket salads. The Colosseum with Haloumi cheese shish kebabs was also great which was next door to our villa.

Did manage to go for a drive to the ceramics store and buy a few keepsakes and even got to play with a cute puppy which was nice after our fur child Lara passed away only a week before. But alas managed to get in a swim on our way back to Pefkos. Swam across the small cove to the old St Paul's Orthodox church, just amazing clear water!

The last day I managed the first bit of exercise by climbing to top of hill to overlook Pefkos in time to catch a few snaps of my brothers on their run - madness in this heat! Not sure it worked off all that feta, tub of Tzatziki dip, pita bread and olives - oh wait olives are healthy right?! But it was definitely a food and beach holiday.

While I was away Tom held the fort in London (again holidays only stretch so far) but the fort came crumbling down when our bathroom leak turned ugly and half the ceiling fell down in the middle of the night - luck Tom wasn't in the shower at the time! - We thought this sort of stuff only happens to other people or in the movies, but alas no. A month and hotel stay later we have just got a new ceiling but the leak continues...
